“Warehouse 13” (Syfy)
“Warehouse 13” is one of the Syfy Channel’s most popular shows. It has a dedicated fan base that thrills to every hidden meaning and subject in the plots and thinks Eddie McClintock and Joanne Kelly are the perfect leads for the show. The question is why.
I watched a few episodes of the show last year and I have previewed the first two episodes for this year, and I just don’t get it. In the first episode this year the two government agents, Pete (McClintock) and Myka (Kelly) go after H G Wells, Yes that H G Wells. In the second episode they go after a super hero.
In both instances the chases seem a little silly and way too far out to be taken seriously. McClintock and Kelly show a good rapport between their characters but nothing amazing. The heavy lifting in the acting department seems reserved for Saul Rubinek who plays their boss Artie, and by CCH Pounder who plays his boss Mrs. Frederic. These are two pros who have been around a while and no how to make the most from even the most outlandish scripts.
Also good is Allison Scagliotti as Artie’s assistant Claudia. Scagliotti makes this girl just different enough to be impressive. She sparks every scene in which she appears and is able to make the more uncommon situations seem reasonable. Certain actors have that ineffable something that draws attention to them and Scagliotti has it.
“Warehouse 13” is all about a warehouse in the middle of nowhere that houses artifacts from all of history. Plus the rumors and myths you have heard about the government and aliens are secreted here too. In this series it is a place where the past mysteries are unraveled as they impact the world we live in today.
You might want to try out “Warehouse 13” and see what all the attention is about, or if you are a regular watcher you can jump into this new season with gusto. There is something entertaining about this series for a lot of people and just because I don’t get it doesn’t mean you won’t.
The new season of “Warehouse 13” premieres on the Syfy Channel, July 6 at 9PM. |
