"Knock First" (ABC Family)

The "Trading Spaces" bandwagon rolls on and on and on. ABC Family has jumped on it and has created "Knock First," a fix it up show about teenager's rooms. How much you will enjoy the show will depend on your tolerance of teenage enthusiasm and mannerisms.

In each thirty-minute episode a team of one designer and two carpenters descend on a household where a teen lives. The parents are sent packing and the teen and his/her friends are asked to help with the redo of a room - usually the teen's bedroom. Twenty-four hours is allotted to get the job done and if it isn't finished, well the adult crew is out of there. Yeah, sure!

The repair crew arrives in a big bus like vehicle which is where the kids get to go inside and talk to a camera (like the confessional on "Real World"). This way they can complain about or compliment the job that is being done.

There isn't anything really special about this show. The rooms look okay after they are redone but nothing to write home about. None of the adults, designers or carpenters, are standouts either. The kids seem to be enthusiastic about getting their rooms redone but in thirty minutes their personalities aren't fully developed on camera.

"Knock First" is a show that is cashing in on a trend. As such it will attract a specific audience. Those who are not into the whole "Trading Spaces" craze can skip this junior grade edition.

"Knock First" premieres on ABC Family, October 6 at 5:30.
