"Rescue Me" (F/X)
"Rescue Me" has returned for its second season on the F/X channel. This dramatic series stars Denis Leary as New York City firefighter Tommy Gavin. When the series opened on June 21 three months had transpired since the events of the last season. Tommy has moved to a new firehouse and his wife and kids have moved out on him. In short, Tommy Gavin's life is a mess.
In this series Gavin has a drinking problem, family problems, wife problems, girlfriend problems, personality problems, and any other type of problem you can think of. He thinks AA may help but getting off alcohol is something he is not sure he wants to do. He also wants to move back to his old firehouse but as long as he is drinking he will not be welcome there.
This series focuses on Tommy's life but it also includes the lives of his fellow firefighters. They too have their problems be they painkiller addiction, or girlfriend woes. Each set of problems is treated honestly and with humor, heart and understanding.
Leary is the focus of the show and he carries the load with ease. He has totally inhabited the body and spirit of Tommy Gavin and made him a man with flaws who is also heroic when need be. He makes mistakes, tons of them, but beneath the surface he is a man desperate to get his life back in order.
"Rescue Me" tells the story of firefighters and shows their best moments as well as their worst. It is a powerhouse of a series driven by Leary's performance. The supporting cast is outstanding and guest stars Charles Durning, Dean Winter and Lee Tergeson add to the mix.
"Rescue Me" will be seen every Tuesday at 10PM on F/X through September 13. Jump on the bandwagon now and watch all of the episodes. Leary and company will make it all entertaining. |
