"Diesel the Baby Sitter"

Vin Diesel plays a service man assigned as a babysitter of sorts in the new to DVD film "The Pacifier." This movie gives Diesel the chance to show his comedic side while still keeping him in action figure mode. The movie is predictable but still good family fun.

Diesel's co-stars in the film are Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls"), who plays a possible love interest; Faith Ford ("Faith and Hope") who plays the mother of the brood left in Diesel's care; and Brad Garrett ("Everybody Loves Raymond") who plays a smirking wrestling coach. All of these supporting players are good but it is still Diesel's show all the way.

On the DVD you get such extras as bloopers, deleted scenes and commentary. The movie is special enough but it is even better with these "extras" to observe.

Have a fun night at home with the family by watching "The Pacifier." You might have never guessed Vin Diesel could do comedy but he can. And this movie is so much better than "XXX" which he might have made.

"In My Country" is a movie directed by John Boorman. It didn't get much attention when it was shown in theaters but on DVD it should be able to find an audience. It is a powerful and impressive story of the individuals and families touched and shaped by the Apartheid policy in Africa.

In 1990 this policy came to an end and the people who were mistreated earned some measure of respect and compassion. Samuel L Jackson and Juliette Binoche play reporters covering the Commission that was set up to hear complaints about abuses that had occurred.

The film is based on actual events and is searing in its truth in depicting these events. Watch it and learn!

You can also learn about the current war in Iraq by watching "Gunner Palace." This film looks at the American soldiers who are living there, fighting there, and dying there. It is a chance to hear the real live soldiers speak of their plight and the plight of the people they are freeing.

The movie isn't political, it is just human. The people who rap or speak into the camera are soldiers who have lived through this war and may or may not live to make it home.

This is a movie to watch and absorb. It will touch your heart and challenge your mind. It should be seen.

"Dear Frankie" is a movie that will touch your heart in a different way. It is the story of a woman who has left her abusive husband and taken her deaf son with her. Rather than tell her son what an idiot her husband and his father was, she invents a story about a man sailing around the world. Her son writes to him but she gets the letters and answers them.

Of course this deception can't go on forever and soon it is crunch time. But have heart and have faith that all will come out alright. With stars like Emily Mortimer and Gerard ("Phantom of the Opera") Butler you will feel every emotion in the movie.

Less enjoyable is the story of a woman's struggle with depression. This film is titled "Prozac Nation" and it is based on the book by Elizabeth Wurtzel. Christina Ricci plays Wurtzel in the movie and she is very good. So is Jessica Lange as her overprotective and grating mother.

This is a movie about the wonder of Prozac but it is not particularly entertaining. If you can just watch for the acting then you might enjoy it; all others will not.

The Disney company has made a household name out of the "Even Stevens" TV series. Shia LeBeouf stars in the series and he is funny and solid in the acting category. In "The Even Stevens Movie" he co-stars with another Disney favorite Christy Carlson Romano.

In the movie the Stevens family wins an island hideaway vacation - or so they think. In reality it is a reality show in the making. You know the sad thing is that this sounds like an idea a TV pitchman would actually have.

Anyway the movie is good fun and the actors are at their best. LeBeouf and Romano are Disney "stars" and this movie lets them show you why.
