"The Sky's the Limit"
Kurt Russell and Kelly Preston play super heroes who are also parents in the new Disney DVD release "Sky High." This is a DVD the entire family can watch and it is sure to delight everyone from the youngest to the oldest in your crowd.
Michael Angarano plays the superheroes' son who is sent to their old alma mater "Sky High." This "school in the sky" is where young offspring of the mighty defenders of justice learn how to hone their skills. The faculty is composed of characters played by Cloris Leachman, Dave Foley, Bruce Campbell and Lynda Carter.
Russell and Preston are fine in their roles but the supporting cast steals the show. You will have fun from beginning to end with "Sky High."
Family entertainment continues in the "Old Yeller" collection. This DVD features two movies, the classic film "Old Yeller" and also its sequel "Savage Sam." "Old Yeller" is the tearjerker about a boy and his dog that starred Tommy Kirk, Fess Parker, Dorothy Maguire and Kevin Corcoran.
"Savage Sam" brings back Kirk and Corcoran as the owners of "Old Yeller's" son "Savage Sam." This sequel is not as well known as the original "Old Yeller" movie but it is almost equal in its adventure and excitement.
So settle back and watch these movies with your kids, but be sure to have the tissues easily available for when the tears begin to flow. I have seen grown men weep while watching this tragic tale of a boy and his pet.
You can also expect some tears to fall when you watch the DVD that gathers together the first season of "Extreme Makeover." Those familiar with the TV series know how touching and heart-warming this show can be and with this DVD you get episode after episode.
You also get some bloopers from the show plus some give and take conversations between Preston and Paul. You won't want to miss that exchange. So go out today and get your own copy of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
If you want to get away from family fare for a while, you can check out "Havoc" which is being released in R and "unrated" DVD format. This movie is about two pampered rich girls who want a closer look at the hip-hop lifestyle. When they get in too deep, the results are shocking.
Anne Hathaway who was the "squeaky-clean" princess in "The Princess Diaries" and Bijou Phillips play the two girls who wander into this scene. Others in the cast include Mike Vogel and Freddie Rodriguez.
This is definitely not for the entire family, but for those who like more adult dramas this is a good film to watch. It is directed by noted filmmaker Barbara Kopple and is written by Stephen "Traffic" Gagan.
For those of you who like getting the TV classics then you will want to rush out for "Home Improvement: Season 3." This Tim Allen/Patricia Richardson family show was a ratings hit long before the Romanos came to town. They and the actors who played their sons: Zachery Ty Bryan, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith, provided American with good, clean fun week after week.
You can always catch this show in reruns but that isn't the same as being able to sit down and watch episode after episode. Plus you get an extra bonus feature which is "Tim's Tool Corral" which features the Tool Time Girl Debbe Dunning.
You can also get "Golden Girls: Season 3." These old shows have been airing on the Lifetime Channel, but getting all the episodes to watch at one time is what makes the DVD special. In this collection of Season 3 there are twenty-five episodes to enjoy.
Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, Estelle Getty and Betty White have never been funnier or more adorable. So take home "The Golden Girls: Season 3" for a delightful time in front of the television set.
Kids will be eager to sit and watch "The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss: Fun With the Cat." This new DVD has some of the best stories ever featuring such characters as the Cat in the Hat, Sarah Hall-Small, Yertle the Turtle and others.
There are three episodes featured which include "Cat's Play," "The King's Beard" and "A Bird's Guide To Health." Each one is a story the kids can understand and enjoy and features a cast of wacky and wonderful characters. |
