"Redford Is Still Doing Fine"

Robert Redford has been a star for many years now, and he isn't quite as youthful looking as he once was. Still the Redford charm is intact even when he is playing father in law to Jennifer Lopez as he does in the new DVD "An Unfinished Life." This was one of the most under appreciated movies of last year and deserves to find an audience now.

Redford plays a man made bitter by the death of his son. He blames his daughter in law for the accident that killed him. She left town soon after his son's death and now returns many years later. She brings with her the granddaughter (Becca Gardner) Redford never knew he had.

The whole film is about relationships, and that makes it pretty special. Redford is at his best and Lopez shines when working with him. Morgan Freeman is also in the movie as Redford's partner on the farm and he is his crusty, trusty best.

Mark this one down as a great movie to watch. It may not have gotten much hype but it sure does deliver the entertainment.

"Fun With Dick and Jane" made a lot more money in theaters than "An Unfinished life" but I was disappointed in this comedy. Jim Carrey and Tea Leoni are two of my favorites but they just aren't funny in this film or maybe it is the movie that just isn't funny. I know the subject matter isn't funny, and that is about people losing their jobs and being desperate for money.

This is a remake of an old Jane Fonda/George Segal film. As I remember it, it was funny. This one tries to make Dick and Jane's situation amusing but with today's headlines being all about situations like these, it just doesn't work. Carrey and Leoni give it a solid try but the laughs just aren't there. At least not for me.

"Fun With Dick and Jane" turns out to be no fun at all.

Shia LeBeouf plays Frances Quimet and Stephen Dillane plays Harry Vardon in "The Greatest Game Ever Played." That is a dangerous title for a movie to have because when the "game" concerns a golf match, well the excitement isn't there. Golf and movies just don't go together. When was the last time you saw a really "great" golf film?

The only good golf movie I have seen in a while was "Tin Cup" and it was mostly a comedy. This movie that dares to say it is about "the greatest game" is a semi-entertaining film but nothing special. It concerns a golf match back in the early days of golf and is not as thrilling as it wants to be.

The movie was directed by actor Bill Paxton and he makes an effort to keep it entertaining, but like I said - golf and movies don't usually mix. It may be about the greatest golf game ever, but that is as far as it goes.

From the 60's thru the 80's Merv Griffin hosted one of the most interesting shows on TV. It came on in the afternoons in my town and Merv served up some of the biggest and brightest stars in Hollywood and from around the world. He also interviewed Presidents and other politicians. If they were important Merv had them on his show.

Now you can watch the "best" of these interviews on the new DVD "The Merv Griffin Show: 40 of the Most Interesting People of Our Time." Some of the people Merv interviews are Richard Pryor, Sophia Loren, President Richard Nixon, Tom Cruise and Christopher Reeve. These people appear as they were during these times and show the personalities that made history.

Merv was the consummate interviewer, charming and friendly, and always interesting. This is a treasure trove of golden interviews. Don't miss it! Get "The Merv Griffin Show: 40 of the most Interesting People of All Time."

Finally if you are in the mood for a horror flick take in "Mortuary." This is one about a family living in a funeral home and being terrorized by corpses that rise form the dead. Denise Crosby stars and horror master Tobe Hooper directs. The DVD even has a featurette titled "Inside the Graveyard." You are going to want to watch this one with a crowd!
