"Bill Engvall: Movie Star"
Bill Engvall has become quite the TV star between his "Blue Collar Comedy" routines and his own "The Bill Engvall Show" on TBS. Maybe, however, you didn't know that he is also a movie star. Yep, Bill stars in the new movie on DVD "Delta Farce." There is an audience out there for movies like "Delta Farce." This audience is composed of the people who think anything that features Engvall or Larry the Cable Guy is going to be full of laughs. And the dumber the humor, the better. Well humor doesn't get much dumber than that included in "Delta Farce" which stars Engvall and Larry so the people who like this stuff are going to be very, very happy.
Bill (Engvall), Larry (Larry the Cable Guy) and Everett (DJ Qualls) are members of the same Army Reserves Unit. One weekend when they are pulling their reserve duty they meet their new Master Sergeant. His name is Kilgore (Keith David) and he is a gung ho type of guy. He informs these three men their unit has been activated and is being sent to Iraq.
On the flight to Iraq the three men are asleep in a vehicle that is jettisoned during a storm. They end up in a desert area they think is Iraq, but in actuality it is Mexico. Somehow Sgt. Kilgore also ends up in the desert (it is that kind of movie).
The rest of the movie has this quartet of brainpower fighting off bandits led by Carlos Santana (Danny Rejo). He and his men terrorize a village in which lives a beauty named Maria (Marisol Nichols). She and Larry strike up a friendship.
Nothing in this movie is funny, but most of it is silly. You go from the extreme of having Everett take on a monster wrestler in the ring to Kilgore being tortured by having to sing "I Got You, Babe" to a member of Santana's band of men.
Engvall, Larry and Qualls are all excruciatingly bad. They look as though they are reading their lines off cue cards. And seeing poor Nichols having to have romantic scenes with Larry is enough to make you toss your popcorn. Nichols had a featured role on "24" this past year and it made good use of her talent. She doesn't deserve to be stuck in trash like this.
Having said all this. If you are a die hard Bill Engvall fan then you might want to take a chance with "Delta Farce." It isn't the best Engvall you will see but it is pure Engvall.
More my cup of tea is "Wind Chill." Emily Blunt and Ashton Holmes star in this thriller about a young female college student who accepts a ride home with a stranger. There is a winter storm coming and they need to get their destination before it hits. In order to do this they take a shortcut off the main road and that leads to trouble.
This is another one of those movies where you are screaming "don't turn off the road!" But they do and that is what makes the movie interesting - and scary! The acting in this movie is good and the suspense is tense. Everything you need to have fun. So get "Wind Chill" and let the temperature drop as you watch.
Winter is coming and it is time to cool things with a new Scooby-Doo movie. You can watch "Chill Out, Scooby-Doo" and have all the fun and laughs you have come to expect form Scooby and the gang. This original movie takes Scooby and company to the Himalayas where they hunt for the Abominable Snowman.
Everybody, regardless of age, loves Scooby-Doo and everybody loves to watch his adventures. So make sure you get "Chill Out, Scooby-Doo" and have a night full of fun.
Are you ready for a new season of "Nip/Tuck"? Well it will be here before you know it. But before you plunge into that one how about getting the DVD of "Nip/Tuck: The Complete Fourth Season." This is the season that featured such guests as Larry Hagman, Rosie O'Donnell, Alanis Morisette and Brooke Shields.
Be sure this is another season of racy fun and shocking stories. This is the most unique series on TV today and with the DVD you can watch it all from start to finish with no interruptions. So plan to have a few hours of pure entertainment pleasure as you watch "Nip/Tuck: The Complete Fourth Season."
Another season of TV is available on DVD and that is "Rules of Engagement: The Complete First Season." This series stars David Spade, Patrick Warburton and Oliver Stone as well as Bianca Kajlich and Megyn Price.
Nobody expected this show to be a hit but audiences loved it. So now it is back for a second season on TV and the first season is out on DVD. Plus on the DVD you get a blooper reel, which is one of my favorite things to watch.
And yet another TV series has a DVD out and it is "Desperate Housewives: The Complete Third Season, The Dirty Laundry Edition." A lot of people thought the second season was the death knell for this series but it bounced back with a lot of energy and style in season three. One of the best things was seeing Dixie Carter stalk about as an evil mother in law. She was so good she got nominated for an Emmy.
But there's more than just Dixie. You have new romances and old surprises, plus the cast is at the top of their form - especially Eva Longoria who continues to grow as a comic talent. Watch it all and get ready for the new season of "Desperate Housewives" coming up later this month.
Finally, depending on your political viewpoint you might want to watch "Rush To War," a documentary that looks at the US foreign policy of the past fifty years. There are interviews with politicians, reporters and various leaders including Joe Wilson who talks about the "outing" of his wife Valerie Plame by the Bush administration.
It is sure to stir up a fair amount of talk in your home as you watch it. You may not agree with everything presented but you will find the information useful. There is a lot included in this documentary titled "Rush To War." |
