"Something A Little Bit Different"
A few years ago there was a movie titled "Shawn of the Dead." It was just different enough, and just silly enough to be totally enjoyable. Simon Peg was the star of that movie and now he has a new movie out on DVD. It is titled "Hot Fuzz" and like "Shawn of the Dead" it is just different enough to be a fun way to spend a couple of hours.
Pegg plays a super cop named Nick Angel. He is tremendously successful in capturing criminals. So good that he makes the rest of the force where he works look bad. One day his Captain has had enough and ships Nick off to the calmest town around. It is so peaceful they haven't had a real crime in years.
Nick gets partnered with a cop named Danny. Danny dreams of adventure and excitement and thinks Nick is his real chance for adventure. Eventually they do discover a source of crime and then Danny's dreams almost become his nightmares.
Both actors are good in their roles and the supporting cast is also first rate. This is a movie that lets everybody shine while providing a real treat for the audience. You can't watch this movie and not enjoy it. It's impossible. So track down "Hot Fuzz" and have a great time watching it.
If you are a fan of "slacker" movies - you know the ones where the guys are unambitious potheads - then you will want to watch the new DVD "Everything's Gone Green." This is a story about a total loser who stumbles into success.
The stars of this DVD are Paulo Constanzo and Steph Song, not two of your most recognizable stars. Still they are perfect for their roles. They have the "slacker" thing down to perfection.
So if you want a grungy type of movie this is one to watch. Get the DVD of Everything's Gone Green."
When "Babylon 5" ended its run as a TV series there was weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. Sci Fi fans are the most devoted on earth. The outcry was so great that the producers of the series decided to make a direct to video movie featuring the core cast. Bruce Boxleitner, Tracy Scoggins and Peter Woodward are all seen in their original roles.
The plot is basically the same as the episodes from the series with all the sci fi adventures you could want. But the main attraction is the familiarity of the cast and circumstances. It is all here in the DVD and ready for the fans to watch. If you are a fan then race to your local DVD parlor and get "Babylon 5: The Lost Tales."
The 2003 mission to Mars that was called the Mars Rover Mission is now shown in a new documentary titled "Roving Mars." This amazing film tells the full story of the total mission that started with the "roving" machines named "Spirit" and "Opportunity" being developed. We follow their creation, their implementation, their testing and their full mission.
It is stunning to see the pictures these machines sent back from Mars. You may have seen some of them before but seeing the whole package is breathtaking. You can just imagine how all this looked on the Imax screen when it was shown there.
So for the real look at the red planet of Mars watch this DVD. It is well worth your time. You should also share the adventure with your family.
Finally for the youngest member of your family there is the DVD titled "Baby Einstein: Discovering Shapes." This DVD is just what the title says - a way to introduce the baby in your family to a variety of shapes. This is done in a completely acceptable way and one to which a baby can respond.
The "Baby Einstein" series is an amazing one and this is one of their best DVD's. So get if for your child or grandchild and let the fun and education begin. |
