"Where There's A Will"

Anytime you have Will Smith starring in a movie you can rest assured the film is going to be a moneymaker at the box office and DVD sales are going to be high. Ever since the young actor burst on the scene following his TV success with "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air" he has had hit after hit. He is truly a bankable star.

Smith plays Chris Gardner in "The Pursuit of Happyness," a movie now out on DVD that is based on a true story. The story is all about a long, hard journey to success. It would have been nicer if there had been a little fewer struggles shown and a bit more of the success displayed in the film.

The film starts with Chris (Will Smith) trying to sell medical equipment in San Francisco. He, his wife Linda (Thandie Newton) and their son Christopher (Jaden Smith) really have to struggle to make ends meet. They owe back rent, parking tickets, day care and a million other bills.

One day Chris sees a guy parking an expensive looking car. He asks what the man does and he replies that he is a stockbroker. Chris decides to apply for an intern program at Dean Whitter, not knowing that the intern program does not pay a salary of any kind. Meanwhile Linda decides she will move to New York and try to find a better life. This leaves Chris and Christopher on their own.

Everything that can go wrong does and soon the two Chris' find themselves homeless and on the street. It is a sad state of affairs and one the movie goes into great detail to show. The two barely have enough to eat, and every time they get some extra money something comes along to take it away.

Smith and Jaden get so into their characters that you are rooting for them all the way. They are totally likeable. That is what makes Smith such a success as an actor, he gets inside his character and makes you root for him. That creates success, and "The Pursuit of Happyness" is a prime example.

Just in time for Easter is a new Disney DVD. It is titled "Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse: Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt." This is a collection of cartoon adventures starring Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy and Goofy. They get involved in action situations and the laughs flow freely.

This is also an interactive DVD that means the kids can get involved with the adventures through the DVD. Plus there is a never seen before segment and a new song to be heard. So give the kids an early gift and make it "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Great Clubhouse Hunt."

In order to get everyone ready for the new movie "Are We Done Yet?" Sony is re-releasing the DVD version of "Are We There Yet?" And on this new DVD we get a sneak peak at the movie. Ice Cube and Nia Long star in this movie that sparked a sequel and they are both great.

Ice Cube has certainly become one of Hollywood's most personable actors. In this film about a man who goes from playboy to family man, he is at his most enjoyable and most funny. The movie centers on his character's transitions and awkward moments and makes him as loving and loveable as can be.

"Are We There Yet?" is a great family film so get it for yours, and get ready to see the sequel "Are We Done Yet?"

Another heart-warming film is "Some Things That Stay." This movie is set in the 1950's in a rural section of the country. A young girl named Tamara moves there with her family and longs to have a life that is just like everyone else's. Her family is not your typical one and she just wants to be normal and do normal things.

It looks that is how her life will be until her mother gets sick. Then the responsibilities of keeping it all together falls on her. She becomes the adult and normal takes on a new meaning. Katie Bolan shines as Tamara and Alberta Watson is outstanding as her mother. Kevin Zeggers also is in the cast.

This is a movie you can watch and appreciate. Make sure you get this new DVD.
