"I Know A Secret"
There is a "secret" at your local video store. The "secret" concerns the best family film that has been released in ages. The title is "Little Secrets" and it is a winner through and through.
The film stars Evan Rachel Wood of "Once and Again" fame as well as David Gallagher who is one of the stars of "Seventh Heaven." The third member of the young adult cast is Michael Angarano. All three young actors are perfect for their roles.
Woods plays the girl who is the keeper of secrets for the neighborhood. Angarano and Gallagher play the two brothers who move in next door. As time goes by Wood's character learns that any "secret" is one too many.
I had a chance to speak by phone with Jessica Barondes who is the writer and producer of the film. She also wrote and produced "Wish Upon A Star" which starred Kathryn Heigl and Danielle Harris. "It shows continuously on 'The Disney Channel,'" she laughingly said. "Not too many people saw it when it was released but it has found a home there."
Barondes had nothing but praise for her cast, especially Wood who had to learn to look like she is playing the violin. "She learned the fingering so that it looked real and she did it in six weeks," said Barondes. "She is a natural mimic."
"Little Secrets" won some acclaim when it won the Crystal Heart Award at the Heartland Film Festival in Indianapolis. "We were all so grateful for that recognition," said Barondes. "We were hopeful of any mention which could help us get the word out about the film."
Now that it is on video it is hoped the movie will finally get the attention it deserves. Word of mouth and rave reviews should do that. The movie certainly deserves to be seen. As I told Barondes, it is definitely the best family film I have seen in a long, long time.
"Little Secrets" is a family film and "ESPN's Ultimate X" is for the testosterone brigade. This movie looks at all the fantastic feats which athletes do in the world of extreme action sports. These "events" are gravity defying and death defying in some instances. They will take your breath away.
With a rock hard soundtrack blaring in the background, this movie will make your adrenaline rev up a notch or two. It is fast and furious and then some.
Horror movie fans will find their appetites sated by "Infested." This is a movie about mutant flies and their ability to kill. In the film five friends return to their home town for a funeral and then decide to get some rest and fun at a hideaway they had in their youth. But when they stay out in the boondocks they are subject to attack by the killer flies. By the end of the film they are all, well dropping like flies.
The cast is made up of Lisa Ann Hadley, Jack Mulcahy, Zack Galligan, Amy Jo Johnson and Robert Duncan McNeill. Galligan, you will remember, was the guy from "Gremlins." He just can't seem to stay away from trouble.
Robert Forster and Donnie Wahlberg do some pretty good acting in "Diamond Men." This is a story about diamond salesmen, one older and one young. They have a real difference in styles, and they both get on each other's nerves.
Jasmine Guy co-stars in this semi-enjoyable movie. Forster and Wahlberg are good but the movie just doesn't come to life.
Finally there are three movies out for the kids. They are (1) "The Wiggles: Magical Adventure! (2) "Dora The Explorer: Dora's Map Adventures" (3) "Blues Clues: Blues Big Band." The kids will love them. |
