"Nemo Finds Video Gold"
"Finding Nemo" was the big hit of the summer and now the video is finding gold. Families are flocking to get a copy of this sweet story about a fish and his dad. This is the perfect kind of video to find a place in everyone's home. And in a two disc DVD set it is bound to provide unlimited hours of pleasure.
Aside from all the extras in the set, the movie itself is a charmer. The story concerns Marlin (Albert Brooks), a widowed fish who has trouble giving his son Nemo (Alexander Gould) any freedom. He is as possessive and protective as he can be. But then the horror of horrors happens. Nemo is abducted by some scuba divers and taken to an aquarium in a dentist's office. Dad now has to search high and low to "find Nemo."
He is helped in his quest by a variety of characters, but the most fun and the most impressive is Dory (Ellen Degeneres), a fish with short-term memory loss. This character is hilarious and Degeneres plays her to the fullest.
The animation, the music, the characters, the story - all make "Finding Nemo" a treasure trove of fun. Make sure you get the DVD set and enjoy all the fun Disney has to offer.
Two other animated movies from Disney will also bring delight to your children. First there is "Rolie Olie Polie's Winter Wonderland." In this one you get adventures with Rolie Olie, his sister Zowie, and even Klanky Klaus. Each segment has to do with the season and makes the child in all of us come alive.
Then there is "Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving" which is a treat for the kids as it entertains them but still provides information on the real meaning of the holidays. There are also songs to brighten the winter days and they can sing along with them.
The prequel to "Dumb and Dumber" should be fun and funnier. Instead "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" is a trite, and boring look at the way the two friends met. Jeff Daniels and Jim Carrey had some innocent charm in the first film. The new stars, Eric Christian Olsen and Derek Richardson, look their parts but they aren't the comedians they should be.
The movie is an embarrassingly stupid film that never amuses. It is in poor taste and in poor talent. "Dumb and Dumberer" should be ignored and ignored some more.
You know "Dumb and Dumberer" is dead on arrival when a film titled "Cheerleader Ninja's" offers more entertainment value. In this movie, which stars Kira Reed, a group of cheerleaders are attacked by the older women of the church and blamed for the sins of the world. Then an evil genius fixates on them to be his pawns in a takeover of the world. These cheerleaders have troubles coming and going.
Matt Damon and Casey Affleck have more than their share of trouble too in a film called "Gerry." This is a movie about two friends who go hiking in the desert. They both have the name of "Gerry" or at least that is what they call themselves. Later when they abandon the main path, things get really dramatic and it could be a matter of life and death.
This film is full of mysteries as to the identities of the Gerrys and the true relationship between them. Damon and Affleck are good at giving the characters the mysterious nuances they deserve.
In "The Last Kiss" four friends decide to abandon their responsibilities and go on a road trip. Each of the men has a solid reason for wanting to get away. They are all running from their responsibilities and heading, they think, towards freedom. But life has a way of pulling you back to where you should be. See this movie and learn how it happens.
Finally there is "Dust," a movie about two brothers in love with the same woman. After she makes her choice the other brother uses that as a spur to go on to bigger things. But again life gets complicated and the two men are forced to confront each other again.
Joseph Fiennes and David Genham are the stars of this movie and they make the roles impressive. This is an unknown video you might want to "discover." |
