"Renee Steals a Movie"
A couple of years back Renee Zellwegger was up for an Oscar for her performance as Roxie Hart in "Chicago." Her main competition was Nicole Kidman for her performance in "The Hours." History shows that Renee lost and Nicole won.
Fast forward a year and Renee is once more up for an Oscar. This time for her role in "Cold Mountain." Nicole Kidman is also in the movie but her part is totally overshadowed by Renee's performance. In short Renee stole the film away from the "stars" Jude Law and Nicole. Ah but revenge is sweet.
Renee's Oscar winning performance is now available to be seen as "Cold Mountain is out on video/DVD. In the film, set in the 1860's, Kidman plays a sweet young thing from Charleston who comes to the town of Cold Mountain. There she meets and falls in love with the character played by Jude Law. Before they can do much about their romance he is called up for service in the war.
While Jude is gone Nicole tries to keep her farm together, but she is genteel and farming and such don't come naturally to her. Enter Renee as a mountain woman. She takes Nicole in hand and keeps them from starving. Renee stomps all over the screen and gives a performance that brightens an otherwise dreary movie.
Zellwegger can't save the film but she does give it some life and humor, both of which are sorely missing from Kidman and Law's performances. When you watch the DVD you will agree Zellwegger is the standout.
Madeline Kahn was the standout in the 1974 Mel Brooks' comedy "Blazing Saddles." This movie was ahead of its time with its sometimes crude humor and its hilarious performances. Along with Kahn the film stars Cleavon Little, Harvey Korman, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens and Alex Karras.
Certain scenes have reached classic status and have to be seen to be enjoyed. Brooks piles on the one liners and the visual jokes. It is this movie and "Young Frankenstein" that made Brooks into a comic legend, and foreshadowed the genius that would create the Broadway smash "The Producers."
Not as much fun, but still funny, is Brooks' "Dracula, Dead and Loving It." This spoof and pun filled version of the Dracula legend stars Leslie Neilsen, Peter McNichol and Amy Yasbeck. Brooks also makes an appearance as Van Helsing.
The one liners fly like bats in the night, and silliness prevails. It is not classic Brooks but it is still funny Brooks and that should be enough for most viewers. Get both of these DVD's and have a fun filled evening.
If you want to see a sex filled dark thriller try "3-Way." This film is full of kidnapping, blackmail, violence, etc. And it is all tied together with a lot of sexual situations and exploitations.
The movie stars Desmond Harrington and Dwight Yokam plus a trio of stunning women - Gina Gershon, Joy Bryant and Ali Larter. That is enough female beauty to make any movie worth seeing. So check it out today!
With "Spider Man 2" mania filling the theaters, kids should love a chance to see "Spider Man vs Doc Ock." That chance is out on DVD format and is a great animated adventure. You not only get to see the Spider-Man and Doc Ock battles, you also get a chance to learn why Doc Ock is one of the fabulous Stan Lee's favorite villains.
Don't miss out on the fun. Get "Spider Man vs Doc Ock" today! |
