"Sandra Bullock Gives Two Week's Notice"
Last year Sandra Bullock had a movie out titled "Murder By Numbers". Her young co-star in that film was an actor by the name of Ryan Gosling. The gossip columns said that Bullock and Gosling are an item despite the large age difference between them. This week both Bullock and Gosling have new videos in the stores. This will give you one more chance to see who Sandy's young heartthrob is.
Bullock's movie is "Two Week's Notice" in which she co-stars with Hugh Grant, a man who is close to her age. Sandra plays a lawyer who is into good works. Grant is a real estate executive who thinks only of himself. Are they destined to fell in love? You got it!
The movie is not as good as you want it to be, or you expect it to be. As cute as Grant and Bullock are together, somehow this movie and their characters just don't click. And they have to click for the movie to have any charisma. They don't, it doesn't, end of story.
Gosling's movie is entitled "The Believer" and in it he shows amazing acting talent. He plays a young neo-Nazi who hates the Jewish people. His hatred is born out of a secret that you find out at the end of the film, and it is a big one.
Summer Phoenix, Theresa Russell and Billy Zane co-star in this powerful and explosive movie. Gosling is an amazing actor and this movie showcases his talent.
Another strong and sensual movie is "The Crime of Padre Amaro." This movie has grossed more money in Mexico than any other Mexican film ever has. It is the story of a priest and the woman who takes his love. It is all about passion and choices; in this case whether or not to stay true to the Church.
Gael Garcia Bernal plays the priest and Ana Claudia Talancon plays the woman obsessed with him. This is a controversial movie but a very enjoyable one - with a lot of flavor from "The Thorn Birds."
"Bloody Sunday" is a movie that focuses on the events of January 30, 1972. This was the date when the British Army shot and killed 13 unarmed Northern Ireland citizens. The results of this act were widespread and hugely influential in upcoming events.
The movie looks at the events leading up to this occurrence through the eyes of people who were involved in the drama. The actors are unknown to us but they are all very good in their roles.
John Woo is one of my favorite directors. He has a signature style of making action movies and when he is good ("Face/Off") he is great. "Once A Thief" is not his best film but it is a very good one. Primarily because he has one of his favorite leading men starring in it.
Chow Yun-Fat gives Woo just what he wants in an action hero and in this film he plays a thief. He and two cronies are art thieves and they decide to do one final caper. Of course it becomes one of their most difficult.
The Woo action is all there so this is a movie to enjoy. Woo and Yun-Fat are a deadly combination and deliver the thrills.
In "Ignition" Lena Olin ("Alias") plays a judge whose ruling in a matter could severely impact the space program. So while she is deliberating she needs protection. Bill Pullman is assigned to give her that protection. He and she both think the matter is not too serious but little do they know how extreme some people can be.
Olin and Pullman make a good couple, and the movie is suspenseful. "Ignition" may be a slow starter but it eventually gets there.
The women prove they can be just as good at thievery as the men, in "Rip It off." Jennifer Esposito, Alyson Hannigan, Steve Harris and Nasstassja Kinski star in this movie about a group of women who learn their boyfriends are planning to rob a casino. They decide to beat them to the punch and go for it.
Esposito is a strong screen presence and Steve Harris ("The Practice") is always good for a fine acting job. You might surprise yourself with how much you like this movie.
Finally there is "Babylon 5, the 2nd Season." This DVD set gives us a full season of the sci-fi adventure series that stars Bruce Boxleitner, Claudia Christian and Jerry Doyle. If you like this type of movie then you will love this full set of episodes from season 2.
