“Bucky Larson:
Born To Be A Star” (Sony Pictures)
Who was the idiot who
greenlighted this mess of a movie? Did someone actually think a movie about a mentally challenged young man wanting to be a porn star would attract an
audience? And why would Adam Sandler throw his large talent behind such
a project and then compound the horror by having his wife appear in the
film? “Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star” is as gross and excruciating a
movie as I have ever sat through. May it quickly be gone from sight and sound never to be heard of again.
Nick Swardson plays Buck,
a cheerful young man working as a bag boy at a local grocery store. Just to be mean his boss (Curtis Armstrong) fires him. Later that night he learns his mom
and dad (Miriam Flynn and Edward Hermann) were porn stars in their
youth. Bucky decides to head west and become a porn star
too.
In Hollywood he meets up
with a porn director (Don Johnson) and a porn star (Stephen Dorff). Before you know it Bucky is a star, for all the wrong reasons. He even attracts the love
and affection of a sweet young waitress (Christina
Ricci).
All of this is presented
in the grossest and most non-entertaining way. Johnson, Dorff, Swardson, Ricci, Flynn, Hermann, Armstrong, Nick Turturro and Jackie Sandler should all hang their
heads in shame for taking part in this dud. Hermann should be especially
sorry or has he fallen on such hard times that he is required to act in
this tripe. I mean he played FDR and now this!
The film is rated R but
it should be NC-17. There is nudity, sexual situations, and profanity.
I have never been so glad
to see a movie end as I was this one. When deciding my score for the film I could come up with nothing positive in the viewing experience. I decided to award it
my first ever “0.” That says it all.
