‘Face/Off” (Syfy Channel)

The second season of “Face/Off” has begun on the Syfy Channel. This is a show that pits individual special effects artists against each other. It is based on the old “Survivor” premise as someone gets voted “off the island” each week. It doesn’t matter how many shows of this type there are, the audiences seemingly always embrace them. I watched this show last year and was hooked from the first episode on.

This show is “special” in that the people involved have to be talented – and they are! McKenzie Westmore of the well known Westmore makeup dynasty is the host of the show. She hands out the assignments and they are rough. They have to create creatures and that is no easy job. They turn attractive models into somewhat grotesque humans. It is amazing to watch the way they make the people evolve into these eye-catching creations.

What makes the show even more appealing is how fast the personalities of the contestants come to the fore. This year there are fourteen contestants, seven men and seven women, and from the first episode the personalities flourish. There are those who dominate; those who are out of their league; those who are conniving; and those who have greatness on display early on.

If you want a show that is really fun to watch then give “Face/Off” a try. It is certainly habit forming so plan to have your Wednesday’s at 10 free so you can watch it at its first showing. Westmore is a great host; the candidates all want to win; and the shows are edited to keep you in suspense until the name of the cast off is announced.

So tune in to the Syfy Channel on Wednesday night’s at 10 and see why I am such a fan of this show.
