“Winnie the Pooh” (Walt Disney Pictures)
The One and Only
“Winnie the Pooh” is a classic children’s story by A. A. Milne. The characters in the book are
beloved by children of all ages, and the different adventures they have taken have thrilled kids throughout the
world. There have been many movies about “Pooh” and his friends but the latest one titled “Winnie the Pooh” is full
of fun for everyone.
“Winnie the Pooh” is really about a boy named Christopher Robin and his collection of stuffed
animals. In his imagination these “animals” come to life and have adventures in which he participates. There is the
teddy bear named “Pooh”, the owl named “Owl”, the rabbit named “Rabbit”, the donkey named “Eeyore”, the small pig
named “Piglet”, the kangaroo named “Kanga” and her baby named “Roo”, and a Tiger named “Tigger.” All of these
animals live in the one hundred acre wood.
Constant in all the stories is Pooh’s desire for honey and more honey. He can never get enough and
his stomach is always telling him it wants more. That is what puts in motion a series of misadventures in the movie
“Winnie the Pooh.” All of the animals get involved and eventually Pooh saves the day and gets his honey.
The beauty of the Pooh stories are in the language that is used and the gentle motions that are
involved. Everything is fairly languid and there is never a terrible threat of danger. There is just fun and
frolicking and friendship. Pooh is loyal to Christopher Robin and all of his animal friends.
The movie is rated G and there is nothing there to offend in any way.
The film is narrated by John Cleese, an actor who has the perfect tone of voice with which to tell
the story. All of the voices supplied for the “animals” are perfect for each one and help bring the animals to
life.
The film is geared towards children ten years of age and below. Those above this age might not be
as enchanted as their younger friends. But for the little ones it is the ideal film and just the right length for
their attention span.
I scored “Winnie the Pooh” an enchanted 6 out of 10.
